Security Guards Tax Rebate Form

Security Guards tax back

An SIA licence is required if you undertake the licensable activities of a security guard and your services are supplied for the purposes of or in connection with any contract to a consumer.
Generally speaking, it is a criminal offence to undertake the licensable activities of a security guard without an SIA licence.

Cost of a Licence

The licence application fee is £220 for a three year licence. The fee is to cover the cost of processing your application and is not refundable.
If you pay your own licence fee you will be able to claim tax relief against your taxable income – for example, if you pay the basic rate of tax the relief is currently worth £44.
As you may need more than one licence eg a ‘standard’ licence and a ‘cctv’ licence, then, in such cases, the second licence will be discounted by 50% but still qualifies for tax relief.

Uniform Cleaning/Laundry Allowance

Some employers (eg G4S) operate what is known as a ‘salary sacrifice’ scheme (i.e. where part of your salary is paid tax-free). However, if you do not benefit from such a scheme, you will be entitled to a claim a work-related ‘flat rate job expenses’ tax allowance (in addition to your ‘standard’ personal taxallowance) in recognition of the fact that you are personally responsible for the costs of cleaning your work uniform.

Remember, claims for UK income tax rebates from HMRC can be back-dated to April 6th 2010. Once your taxback claim is agreed, you will continue to save income tax every year.
